End Of Contract Information

Here's an overview of what typically happens at the end of one of our vehicle contract hire agreements:

1. End-of-Term Options

The contract hire agreement usually outlines various options available to the lessee at the end of the lease term. Common options include returning the vehicle, purchasing it outright, or entering into a new lease agreement. We pride ourselves on flexibility, so please contact us to discuss the right arrangement for you.

2. Vehicle Inspection

Before returning the vehicle, the lessee is often required to undergo an end-of-lease inspection. This inspection is conducted to assess the condition of the vehicle in terms of wear and tear. Lessees are typically responsible for any excessive wear and tear or mileage beyond the agreed-upon limit. Please find our handy checklist below.

3. Excess Mileage Charges

If the lessee has exceeded the mileage limit stipulated in the lease agreement, they may be subject to excess mileage charges. These charges are predetermined in the contract and can vary depending on the leasing company. These end-of-contract charges can be limited by adjusting the mileage mid-contract and therefore spreading the cost over the remainder of the term.

4. Purchase Option

If the lessee is interested in keeping the vehicle, they may have the option to purchase it at the end of the lease term. The purchase price is often predetermined in the contract or based on the vehicle's residual value.

5. Vehicle Return

If the lessee decides not to purchase the vehicle, they are required to return it to SMC in good condition, considering normal wear and tear. The lessee may need to schedule the return in advance and adhere to any specific return procedures outlined in the agreement.

6. Settlement of Outstanding Charges

Before the end of the agreement, the lessee is required to settle any outstanding charges, including excess mileage fees, wear and tear charges and any other outstanding fees incurred during the contract period.

7. Transition to a New Agreement (if applicable)

If the lessee wishes to continue leasing a vehicle, they can explore options for entering into a new contract hire agreement with us.
It's important for both parties to carefully review the terms and conditions of the contract to ensure a smooth transition at the end of the lease term. Communication between the lessee and SMC is key to addressing any questions or concerns and facilitating a successful conclusion to the vehicle contract hire agreement.

As one of the world's largest producers of quality wood flooring, with a proud heritage dating back to 1847, it is vital that the partners we work with are able to match our high standards for quality and professionalism. Working with Southern Motor Contracts has been a revelation; their ability to understand our requirements, manage our vehicles and build in the flexibility to change and grow our company fleet has enabled us to concentrate our efforts on developing the business rather than spending time and effort on non-productive activities.
